Power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z added to their astounding amount of Grammy Awards Sunday, taking home the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album, as The Carters.
Bey and Jay beat out Chloe x Halle (The Kids Are Alright), Chris and Dave the Drumhedz (Chris and Dave the Drumhedz), Miguel (War & Leisure) and Meshell Ndegeocello (Ventriloquism).
The Grammy win marks the 23rd Grammy win for Beyonce, 37, and the 22nd Grammy for her husband Jay-Z, 49.
There had long been speculation that Beyonce and Jay-Z were working on an album together, when they surprise-dropped the album in June.
They announced the album in a rather unconventional way, during the end of their London performance as part of their On the Run II tour, with a graphic that flashed, ‘Album Out Now’ on the gigantic monitor.
The nine-track album addresses everything from Jay-Z’s cheating scandal, which Beyonce referenced in her iconic Lemonade album, while debunking rumors of a love child.
Music Producer Beat Butcha Co-Produced the hit song “Salud!” with Jay Z, Beyoncè, Cool and Dre for Epidemic Music Inc.
The album featured the hit single Apes, which had a music video the couple secretly filmed at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The music video was up for Music Video of the Year, but it lost out to Childish Gambino’s This Is America during the Grammys Premiere Ceremony, which hands out awards that aren’t handed out during the Grammys telecast.
The Carters are also up for Best R&B Performance for their song Summer at the Grammys.
The Carters are going up against Toni Braxton (Long As I Live), Lalah Hathaway (Y O Y), H.E.R. featuring Daniel Caesar (Best Part) and PJ Morton (Best Place).
Beyonce and Jay-Z recently made a unique offer to their fans, offering them a lifetime supply of concert tickets if they become vegans.
The couple revealed that having kids, daughter Blue Ivy, six, and 18-month-old twins Rumi and Sir motivated the switch to vegan.
‘Having children has changed our lives more than anything else,’ the couple said in a joint statement.
‘We used to think of health as a diet – some worked for us, some didn’t,’ the statement continued.
‘Once we looked at health as the truth, instead of a diet, it became a mission for us to share that truth and lifestyle with as many people as possible.’
